Why we can't have good Internet speed

Hi All, I am trying to understand what stops India to have high speed internet similar to USA/Europe.
For example: In Europe for INR of 2000, you can get an unlimited 20MBPS connection at your residence but its highly expensive (in many places 2MBPS+ is not available) to get the same in Indian residence ?

Japan seems to enjoy 100mbps speed 4 years back itself.

Why we have to pay high cost to internet here compared to developed countries and that too for low speed. What technology features we lag and why big companies like Infosys/Wipro/Tech Mahindra/Microsoft/Oracle and so on never tried to create such technology here and create a market opportunity? Thank you. Regards Balaji

Seems to be an issue on the spectrum infrastructure ?

Hi Joydip,
Could you please explain further ?

Balaji:

a. First, we must DECIDE to have GOOD things in life. Once the people concerned decide to have one, we will find a way.
b. Unfortunately the word GOOD is relative to the experience and expectations of the people who see it. You could look at Japan but many could look at a country with worst possible internet connection (to feel happy)!
c. It is not TECHNICAL. If Japan has it, we can have it too ONLY if we want and work for it.
d. Many of us neither ASK for Good things nor force the concerned people to work towards it.
e. My generic answer is that we are getting lazy and greedy. Too much of positive thinking and dont-care attitude make us ignore the pain.

I do not think that the following questions have any different answers:

1. Why can’t we have good roads & public transportation?
2. Why can’t we have good education?
3. Why can’t we have good integrated, coordinated approach to dig the road only once for all cabling and other needs?
4. Why can’t we have good leader in software products in India?
5. Why can’t we have good leader in education? (Today the best school here ranked 64th in the world ranking)
6. Why can’t we have good leader in IT services? (the top most IT company in India is ranked 48th)
7. Why can’t we have good air, water and forest?
8. Why can’t we have good & healthy food?
9. Why can’t we have good rain-water harvesting mechanism?
10. Why can’t we have good drainage system?
11. Why can’t we have good system to turn garbage into essential things?
12. Why can’t we have good national or corporate governance?
13. Why can’t we have good & highly productive workforce?
14. Why can’t we have good ecosystem for entrepreneurs?
15. Why can’t we have good here?

leave alone speed even getting a connection is proving to be difficult.  My daughter in Pune will vouch for this statement.  First when she moved into Pune, after 6 months of running from Pillar to post she got her broadband connection.  Now she has shifted  her residence close to Magarapetta city.  It is now been 3 months since and she is still continuing her running once again to get the broadband connection reconnected.

After going through some known sources, she has come to know last week that the feasibility is not there (In her apartment complex, there is a BSNL broadband connection - I dont understand how when she gets a no feasility report, another person has got it).  So she is now going to Tataindicom for the past one week.  so both of us are waiting for the  D- Day to arrive.

Even my collegues in Chennai who are settling down in the newer areas are having the same problem.

It is not that we dont ask - It is that there is nobody to answer us.  so what do we do next?

I opened a new office in Noida and took up Reliance dedicated line connection. There commitment was 15 days and it has been more than 1 month since they made this commitment. The internet service providers are far from being called as professionals and their marketing persons will give you typical marketing commitments. The currents state of internet connection is really bad, especially in small cities where getting an internet connection is a pain. I am still not sure if the internet speed provided by these companies is also up to the mark.

Though we might be the IT outsourcing hub, we are a long way behind other countries in terms of internet speed and conenction.
